Anita
Mann, accomplished producer, director, actress, dancer and choreographer,
continues to support the arts and the youth of Los Angeles through dance as
board member of the Gabriella Foundation and supporter of the Gabriella Charter
School, which is celebrating its back-to-school term.
For
the past two years, Mann has served as a board member and worked with the
Foundation’s scholarship committee to bring dance to the youth of Los Angeles.
Together, the Gabriella Foundation’s dance program, everybody dance!, and the
Gabriella Charter School, benefit over 2,000 inner-city children in Los
Angeles.
“I
love seeing the young people who are dancing and loving it,” says Mann. “It is
so great to see their confidence and self-esteem blossom because of the
Gabriella Foundation.”
Starting
as a dance program and growing to include a charter school, Gabriella Charter
School is the first of its kind, an innovative arts-based public school serving
children from disadvantaged communities where dance is part of every child’s
school day. Through the strong leadership and support from the board members,
the school has recently been named the second highest achieving charter school
in California.
Being
able to bring affordable programs to young people is something for which the
Foundation strives. For as little as $5 per month, children in Los Angeles’
most impacted communities can take unlimited dance classes. One of Mann’s
duties on the scholarship committee is to help provide assistance to
underprivileged children, so they are able to participate in the Foundation’s
dance classes and programs.
