Last Thursday morning, when dressing for the Fashion Wrap Up launch party, I was stumped. Since it was a fashion event, I wanted to look appropriately stylish, but since it was an INDIANA fashion event, I had low expectations. I had been to Indiana "fashion" parties before where I was ridiculously overdressed in a simple cocktail dress.
Once I arrived at the Ambassador House in Fishers, I realized I underestimated my fellow Hoosiers. Some of the out there get-ups I spotted made my McQ dress seem downright conservative in comparison. The makeup, hair and heels on many of the Fashion Wrap Up partygoers were slightly insane, and I enjoyed everyone's efforts to look a little avant-garde.
Whoever helped organize the event did a great job. The party went smoothly and the models in the Gaby Couture runway show worked it, plus they were all skinny and tall. Nothing irks me more than a short or chubby model. It's a dead giveaway for fashion amateurs and screams, "I'm just stroking these unfortunate people's egos so they will buy my clothes!" The show was even hosted by a tranny (cross-dresser?), which is a must for all these types of events. Bonus points if the tranny is wisecracking and rambunctious, which in this case, she was.
Several sponsors showed their collections at the party, including my friends Lindsey Menner and Ally Wells, who debuted CutieCooks, a new line of adorable aprons and cookware. They donated a custom metallic cocktail apron for a lucky attendee. The event hosts never got around to giving the CutieApron away, but you can win it on Facebook! Click here to enter.
